How the Residential Energy Assessment Program Works
Participating in the Residential Energy Assessment program is easy. Just follow the simple steps below.
- Schedule a home energy assessment.
- Work with your Participating Auditor to customize a plan to lower your energy bills.
- Apply for available financing to help pay for the work (optional).
- Complete the work.
Step 1: Schedule a home energy assessment
A residential energy assessment is a review of a home’s energy performance, including a review of both the home’s energy features and the household’s energy consumption patterns. Home energy assessments identify how efficiently your home is operating and where your home is wasting energy.
- Contact a Participating Auditor in your area and schedule your energy assessment. There is no application; your selected auditor will take care of the paperwork to receive your no cost energy assessment.
Step 2: Customize a plan to lower your energy bills
After your assessment is complete, you will review the results with your auditor to determine which of the recommended energy improvements make the most sense for you. These can include everything from adding insulation and energy-efficient light bulbs to installing a heat pump and ENERGY STAR certified appliances. Make sure you understand the recommendations and ask questions.
When you are ready, discuss with your auditor if they can complete the work or search for a qualified residential contractor.
Step 3: Apply for available financing to help pay for the work (optional)
If you are interested in financing your project, we offer two loan options. Find out which one works best for you. Make sure your selected contractor is approved to offer these loan products.
Step 4: Complete the work
Once the project is finished, you can begin enjoying a more comfortable and energy efficient home. If you are receiving a loan, the lender will pay any amounts borrowed directly to the contractor.
