Job Details
Typical Tasks
- Analyze the energy use of buildings and their systems, equipment, or appliances
- Document building, energy, and customer information in the form of reports and profiles
- Perform heat load calculations for buildings
- Recommend energy-saving opportunities to customers based on their needs
- Educate customers on the benefits of energy improvements—for example, lowering energy costs, feeling more comfortable, and healthier indoor air quality
Typical Skills
- Understanding of energy-efficient building systems and solutions
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
- Computer proficiency
Typical Experience or Education
- Most employers may require a high school diploma or equivalent
- Some employers may require vocational school training in building trades and/or carpentry, a related associate’s degree, or previous on-the-job training
- 1–2 years of previous work experience in building trades, construction, or energy efficiency can help get your foot in the door, but is not always required
- Some companies may want to see previous experience with Salesforce or other customer relationship management (CRM) software, though this can often be trained “on the job” as well
