Offer Point-of-Sale Discounts Through the Inflation Reduction Act
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) offers federal income tax credits of up to $7,500 for the purchase of eligible new EVs, and $4,000 for used EVs. Car dealers selling EVs can register with the IRS to offer IRA tax credits as a point-of-sale rebate to customers. This allows customers to transfer the tax credit to registered dealerships, effectively giving the customer an upfront discount rather than waiting to claim their credit on their tax return.
