Careers in Wind Energy
Energize your future with a career in Wind
Did you know that humans have been using wind energy for thousands of years?
But what about now?
Today, wind energy is more important than ever. Modern wind turbines are a key part of helping us get more energy from renewable sources. That’s because each and every spin of the turbine’s blades creates clean electricity capable of powering homes and buildings—and jobs to make all of those wind turbines are available right here in New York State, helping energize your future too.
Interested in getting paid to help create homegrown, clean energy? You can get trained to learn new skills that you can use to start a rewarding, well-paying career in New York’s growing wind energy industry!
Why Work in Wind?
- Careers in wind energy typically pay well, come with good benefits, and give you solid job security.
- You can get free training (or even get paid for your training time!) to learn new skills—and you don’t need a degree to work in wind energy.
- Demand for wind energy is expected to grow in the next few years as we continue to get more of our electricity from renewable options, like wind.
- You can provide a service that helps thousands (even millions!) of people use clean energy!
- New York State is quickly becoming a leader in all things wind energy—you can get your foot in the door of an industry that is in high demand.
- Career opportunities in the wind industry range from manufacturing to construction, engineering, and more—even captaining ships!
Two Key Types of Wind Energy
-
Land-Based Wind
Land-based wind means installing wind turbines on land, then connecting the turbines to the electrical grid to provide renewable energy. This type of wind energy is an important way of bringing more renewable energy (and more good jobs!) to New York State—especially Upstate regions where there are large areas of land for the turbines.
-
Offshore Wind
Offshore wind means installing wind turbines in the open water near New York’s coastlines, and it is quickly becoming a major opportunity for job seekers. The wind turbines used for offshore wind are even bigger than the ones used on land, meaning they can generate even more clean energy. Did you know that one spin of an offshore wind turbine can power an average house for two days? Learn how you can get to work in this exciting new field!
