Measure and Report Results.

Evaluating your energy performance is a continuous process. Using a tracking system, measure how you are performing against the goals and success measures outlined in your energy action plan. The more frequently you track and report on your performance, the easier it will be to make any required project adjustments in real time.

Adjust Your Energy Action Plan.

Based on your evaluation, identify what energy saving opportunities are working well in your energy action plan. Identify adjustments that need to be made to achieve success. Consider soliciting feedback from multiple stakeholders to gather insights for new actions that can potentially be taken.  

Communicate Success.

Continuous measurement includes documenting your success and realized benefits (e.g., reduced operating costs, improved employee comfort). Communicate and recognize these successes both internally and externally to drive motivation and engagement. Consider giving employees an opportunity to share successes and benefits they have personally seen—this can help solicit direct testimonials for success stories.

Disclose Your Sustainability Performance Information.

Follow best practices by disclosing your energy and sustainability data to customers and investors using reporting platforms, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) or the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Sharing your data increases stakeholder satisfaction and confidence that you are committed to reducing your carbon footprint and contributing to a cleaner environment.
