Incentives for Multifamily Properties

Multifamily building owners and managers can get incentives for installing solar by working with a participating contractor.

MW Block Program

NY-Sun’s main incentives are through the Megawatt (MW) Block Program and the incentive amount depends on the size and location of a project. The incentive amount a solar contractor receives through NY-Sun must be disclosed in the customer contract.

The incentives are designed to decrease as certain solar markets develop and become self-sustaining. Therefore, it is important to check the MW Block dashboard for real-time incentive rates and availability.

Multifamily Affordable Housing Incentives

Additional incentives are available for affordable housing. The Multifamily Affordable Housing Incentive is available for nonresidential solar installations sited on regulated multifamily affordable housing in the Con Edison, Upstate, and Long Island regions. Incentive rates for the Multifamily Affordable Housing Incentive are listed in the following table:

Con Edison CDG projects that receive the Community Credit will receive $1.00/W. CDG projects on eligible properties owned by a public housing authority or nonprofit organization can receive an additional $0.15/W if no less than 60% of project capacity will be dedicated to low-to-moderate income subscribers, with a minimum bill credit discount of 20% or equivalent; and with any remaining capacity dedicated to an eligible affordable housing building within the same affordable housing portfolio or development.
